Total Energies will stop operating gas stations in Mexico

The French conglomerate of gas stations, Total Energies, It will close its gas stations and the convenience stores that it operates inside, accusing the new federal regulations in the sector, promoted by the federal government.

Total Energies gas stations operate in 16 states of the country, mainly in the central and southern areas. Since their arrival in the country in 2018, they have also placed their Bonjour self-service storeswhich will also stop working this year.

Farid Benyahia, director of RED Total Energies México, informed through a statement to suppliers that the deadline for the closing of its gas stations will be next December 29 of 2022.

He assured that the gasoline sector has been strongly affected by the new regulations of the current government and that this project could continue with its development.

Total Energies asserted that the withdrawal is in the sector gasolinerosince the French oil company also operates in the country in exploration and production of hydrocarbons after the National Hydrocarbons Commission awarded it seven blocks in the Gulf of Mexico through tenders.

Last year the Energy regulatory commission (CRE) temporarily closed different storage terminals that import fuels, mainly gasoline and diesel, due to detected anomalies that were not public. Among those closed was the Tuxpan terminal of Total Energies, through which gasoline was imported by ships from companies such as Total, Repsol y Marathonwhich they transported to their stations around the country.

In addition, private companies must comply with the trademark registration before the Mexican Institute of Intellectual Propertya business plan, market studies and verification of investments to continue operating.
