Tottenham enquired about taking John Stones on loan from Manchester City, with a view to signing the central defender on a permanent deal for £20million.
But Stones, it is understood, wants to remain at City until told he is no longer needed.
The Englishman has made just one appearance for Pep Guardiola‘s side this season, playing the full 90 minutes of City’s 3-1 win over Wolves in their opening match.

Stones joined City from Everton for £47.5million four years but he has failed to become the cornerstone of the defence.
After playing a pivotal role in Guardiola’s first title-winning campaign his form has dropped off with injuries halting his development.
The central area of defence has been a problem position for Guardiola during his time at the club and City have splashed out more than £400million on defenders since 2016.
This summer they have brought in Nathan Ake for £40m from Bournemouth and last week they spent £64m on Ruben Dias from Benfica.
Two more additions has put Stones even further down the pecking order at the Etihad but the 26-year-old is willing to stay at the club.
