Tottenham new boy Sergio Reguilon opens the door to a return ‘home’ to Real Madrid as he admits ‘the possibility is there’… just months after sealing £30m move to north London
- Sergio Reguilon ended his 15-year association with Real Madrid in the summer
- The left-back joined Gareth Bale in leaving the Spanish capital for Tottenham
- But the Spain international admits the possibility exists that he could return
- Reguilon spent last season on loan at Sevilla before joining Jose Mourinho’s men
Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon has admitted there is a ‘possibility’ he could return to Real Madrid later in his career.
The 23-year-old was at Madrid for 15 years but left the Spanish giants for north London in a £30million summer deal having spent last season on loan at Sevilla.
Now speaking to ‘El Larguero’ – a sports programme on Spanish radio station Cadena Ser – the Spain left-back has revealed the decision to leave was his but has not discarded a move ‘home’ in the future.

Reguilon ended his 15-year association with Madrid by sealing a £30m summer move to Spurs
‘Madrid is my home and where I grew up,’ Reguilon said.
‘In the future you never know but the possibility is there… I didn’t speak to the boss, it was more with the club.
‘I know what they think of me, I had to take a decision. Time will tell. I didn’t ask for explanations.’
Gareth Bale also joined Reguilon in completing a move from Zinedine Zidane’s side to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer, with the Wales star joining on a season-long loan deal.
But Reguilon has described Madrid as his ‘home’ and admits a possibility to return exists
And left-back Reguilon has claimed Bale appears much more settled back in the Premier League than he was in LaLiga, but is in the dark if he will head back to Madrid once his loan deal is up.
‘He seems different to me. The language is everything for him,’ Reguilon added.
‘He speaks Spanish well, it’s not bad, a bit like me in English, but communication, the habits, mean he’s happier in England… I have no idea if he’ll return (to Madrid).’
The duo combined for Tottenham’s winner at the weekend in their 2-1 win against Brighton, with the 31-year-old Bale netting his first goal since a Copa del Rey tie away to Unionistas back in late January.
He also said Gareth Bale is now more settled but is unsure if he will head back to Madrid
And Spurs boss Jose Mourinho could not help but aim a dig at his former employers following a win that had taken them to second in the Premier League table before Leicester’s win at Leeds on Monday.
‘When I have five minutes I’m going to Safari to look at Madrid websites to see what they say,’ Mourinho said, and his comments and the irony of Reguilon and Bale combining was not lost on the Spanish media.
Marca’s report pointed out that Bale and Reguilon played together 17 times for Real but this is the first time they have combined for a goal, while Mundo Deportivo noted how Bale ‘celebrated the goal with enthusiasm after a difficult time in his career.’
