Toyota has recalled over one million vehicles in the U.S. due to a software defect in the rearview camera system that could increase the risk of a crash.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects approximately 1.02 million vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor system. The models include various 2023-2024 Toyota and Lexus vehicles, as well as the 2023 Subaru Solterra.
The NHTSA states that a software error can cause the rearview camera to freeze or display a blank screen when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The failure to display an image reduces the driver’s rearward view, elevating the risk of a collision.
Toyota will provide a software update to correct the issue at no cost to owners. For more information, vehicle owners can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Additional details are also available at www.nhtsa.gov.
