Transition to electric mobility requires public policies: Toyota

Mexico has already proven to be a world leader in the automotive combustion industry, however, it requires new public policies to be a fundamental piece in the next technological phase before the transition of electrification, for the benefit of the consumer and the environment, demanded directors of Toyota and business leaders in the automotive sector.

Luis Lozano, president of Toyota Motors Mexico and José Zozaya, president of the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), asked the federal government to align itself with the automotive transformation focused on reducing CO2, having clean, sufficient energy and offering incentives. to consumers to accelerate the renovation of combustion cars to electric and hybrid ones, as well as to focus investments on them.

By 2050, it has an ambitious goal of reducing pollutant emissions to zero.

The Japanese automaker reaffirmed its commitment to Mexico for electrification as a means of reducing polluting emissions and not as a discussion of a technology.

The president of Toyota Mexico warned that if our country does not get up to the discussion of the issue and make changes, it will lose opportunities, not only as a country but at the regional level in North America.

The challenge of the leading car manufacturer in hybrid technology is to achieve zero CO2 emissions by 2050, in the manufacture of cars, batteries and the rest of the mobility projects of the future, in which Mexico is lagging behind.

“This technological transformation is going to necessarily require government, society and industry,” warned Luis Lozano.

In turn, the governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, said that his government is working on the construction of an ecosystem to expose projects associated with electro-mobility and the adoption of hydrogen technology as a fuel source in cars, since in the entity there are already companies that supply parts and components for electric vehicles.

The governor of Guanajuato announced that he is working on the creation of the state energy agency that will depend on the Ministry of Economy.

The president of Toyota Mexico said that electrification “is not a trend or a situation, it is a need and a sustainable path”, so it moves to a vision beyond cars, with autonomy, electrification and shared vehicles.

He announced the integration of four technologies for different needs: electric hybrids; plug-in electric hybrids; the electric ones with hydrogen cells and the 100% electric ones.
