A Royal Caribbean cruise ship rescued 17 individuals imagined to be Cuban migrants crammed into a tiny boat on Saturday as it sailed to the Bahamas.
Justin Bradford, 39, was a passenger on the Liberty of the Seas. He advised Insider: “If you’re an American, you’ve seen men and women from Cuba producing that trek on Tv. But to see it in genuine daily life was seriously emotional — and everybody was in shock and disbelief.”
Due to major winds, the cruise ship experienced skipped a planned working day vacation to CocoCay, a personal island in the Bahamas owned by Royal Caribbean.
This turned out to be a “lucky” coincidence, stated Bradford, as it ended up crossing paths with the tiny boat that the Royal Caribbean captain said had been adrift for months.
Bradford was having breakfast when he to start with observed a speck of coloration in the length. “At to start with, some folks believed it was a buoy,” he stated. “But as we obtained closer, we realised: that’s a boat. You will find folks out there.”

Once the migrants eventually reached them, a crew member tossed a rope so that they could connect their vessel to the 1,112-foot cruise ship.
