Trey Lyles is happy with the Pistons. The 26-year-old insider has found his place in the team as a role player who can act as a ‘five’ in small quintets and who can also spread the pitch. He is playing well, something that he attributes to his better mental level, something that on other occasions had been a drag on his game.
“My first two years, if my confidence was low, I would be out there and not shoot. Over the years I have tried to improve my mental capacity to recover. I have worked a lot on the offseason in my state of mind. I just have to be confident in who I am as a player. Therapy has helped me a lot. I have a tendency to lock myself in turning things over in my head. I just want to get out there and use my muscle memory. Therapy has helped me in many ways,” he explains to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.
Lyles, who signed a two-year, $5.1 million deal with Detroit in the summer, is currently averaging 9.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per night with the Michigan organization, which ranks No. 14th place in the Eastern Conference with 10-33.
