Both Kylian Mbappe and Neymar scored a hat-trick, crushing Paris Saint-Germain – Saturday – 6-1 to its host Clermont, and one step closer to regaining the French Football League title.
Mbappe, who scored two goals and made the same last week against Lorient, raised his score to 20 goals, and Paris Saint-Germain’s tally became 71 points from 31 games, 15 points ahead of Stade Rennes, second in the standings.
Clermo – who reduced the difference through Jodel Dosso – remained in 17th place, with 28 points, after receiving the fifth defeat in a row.
Rennes withstood the uprising of its host, Stade Reims, to win 3-2 and jump to second place, ahead of Olympique de Marseille, which hosts Montpellier on Sunday.
In Clermo, Saint-Germain ended the first half with a two-goal lead, despite the modest performance.
Neymar opened the scoring after 6 minutes with a low shot after a pass from Lionel Messi.
Messi also created the second goal for Mbappe, who scored with a direct shot in the 19th minute.
Clermont reduced the difference before the break, when Seif Eddine Khaoui crossed a cross for Dosso to put it in the net.
Neymar made the score 3-1 with a penalty kick that Mbappe got in the 72nd minute, and two minutes later the France striker added the fourth goal after evading the goalkeeper.
Mbappe scored his third and fifth goal for the away team with a shot in the upper corner, and 7 minutes before the end the young striker ran into the penalty area and passed the ball to Neymar, who ended the six-month period.

Earlier, Rennes advanced 3-0 thanks to Benjamin Borrego’s double in the first half and Martin Trier’s goal after the break, to raise the team’s tally to 67 goals, surpassed only by Paris Saint-Germain, who has 70 goals.
But Reims rose up and reduced the difference with the goals of Maxim Bossi and Wins Kayust from the penalty spot.
Rennes’s defense held out in the last 10 minutes, to snatch the victory.
