Former US President Donald Trump began forming his defense team in his second impeachment procedure in the Senate, by appointing Attorney Butch Powers, who resides in South Carolina.
Trump’s advisor, Jason Miller, said Bowers “is held in great respect by Republicans and Democrats alike, and will do an excellent job defending President Trump.” Miller did not say whether Bowers would be the only attorney representing Trump.
Two sources familiar with the discussions revealed that Republican senators had been informed of Bowers’ participation in the Republican convention, and said that Republican Senator Lindsey Graham had stated that he had recommended Bowers to Trump.
When asked later about Trump’s legal team, Graham told reporters: “I think he will have a good team … I’ve known Bowers for a long time and he’s strong.”
