Trump calls for the end of the Constitution in a Truth Social post

(Trends Wide) — Former President Donald Trump asked this Saturday that the Constitution be rescinded to annul the 2020 elections and reinstate him in power, in a message that continues his electoral denialism and that seeks to promote fringe conspiracy theories.

“Do you throw out the results of the 2020 presidential election and declare the RIGHT WINNER or have a NEW ELECTION? A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

He then accused “Big Tech” of working closely with the Democrats. “Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, false and fraudulent elections!”

Trump’s message comes after the release of internal Twitter emails showing deliberation in 2020 over a New York Post story linked to material found on Hunter Biden’s laptop.

White House spokesman Andrew Bates said Saturday that Trump’s comments are “anathema to the soul of our nation, and should be universally condemned.”

“You can’t love America only when you win,” Bates said in a statement. “The American Constitution is a sacrosanct document that for more than 200 years has ensured that freedom and the rule of law prevail in our great country. The Constitution unites the American people—regardless of party—and elected leaders are sworn to uphold it. It is the Ultimate monument to all Americans who have given their lives to defeat self-serving despots who abused their power and trampled on fundamental rights.”

Employees on Twitter’s legal, policy, and communications teams debated—and sometimes disagreed—over whether to restrict the article under company policy tied to hacked materials. The debate took place weeks before the 2020 election, when Joe Biden, the father of Hunter Biden, was running against then-President Trump.

Trump’s continued support for agitators on Capitol Hill

Trump announced his intention to run for president again last month and remains widely considered the leader of the Republican Party. Party officials hoped the former president would drop his election-denial rhetoric after lackluster results in legislative elections.

Earlier this week, Trump voiced his support for the agitators behind the deadly January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol, saying in a video played during a fundraiser that “people have been treated unconstitutionally in my opinion and very, very unfairly.”

In a September interview, Trump said he was “financially supporting” some of the Jan. 6 defendants and promised he would issue pardons and a government apology to those indicted if re-elected.

He has also been criticized for having dined at his Mar-a-Lago resort with well-known white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes and rapper Kanye West, who has recently made a series of anti-Semitic remarks.
