(Trends Wide) –– Former President Donald Trump’s plane landed at Miami International Airport on Monday afternoon, a day before his arraignment and arraignment in federal court scheduled for Tuesday.
Trump is expected to meet with his lawyers and discuss a Florida-based legal team, sources told Trends Wide.
Several flag-carrying supporters of the former president lined the former president’s route to Trump National Doral Miami, where he is expected to spend the night.
Trump faces a total of 37 counts in a federal indictment related to handling classified documents after leaving the White House. He is the first former president of the United States to be indicted on federal charges.
“The purpose of the conspiracy was for TRUMP to take classified documents that he took with him from the White House, and hide and conceal them from a federal grand jury,” the indictment, unsealed Friday, reads. In addition, he details how many documents the FBI seized when it executed a search warrant in Mar-a-Lago on August 8, 2022, as well as what type of classification marks the documents had.
FBI agents seized 27 documents from Trump’s office, according to the indictment. Of those, six were marked “Top Secret,” 18 were marked “Secret,” and three were marked “Confidential.”
A total of 75 documents were seized by FBI agents from a storage room in Mar-a-Lago. Of those, 11 were marked “Top Secret,” 36 were marked “Secret” and 28 were marked “Confidential,” according to the indictment.
Special counsel Jack Smith has investigated Trump’s handling of classified documents that were brought to his resort in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, after the former president left the White House in 2021, as well as possible obstruction of the investigation and government efforts to recover the material.
After the allegation was unsealed, Trump attacked Smith in a Truth Social post, calling him “unhinged” and a “Trump hater.” He also said that he should not be involved “in any case related to ‘Justice’.”
The indictment alleges that the classified documents Trump stored in boxes at Mar-a-Lago included information about the defense and weapons capabilities of both the US and foreign countries, including US nuclear programs.
It also claims that the documents contained information about the possible vulnerabilities of the US and its allies to a military attack, as well as plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack.
