Assault on Capitol Hill: Lawyer sees no good future for Trump 1:01

(Trends Wide) — Donald Trump is nothing but unpredictable. On Tuesday, he did a phone interview with National Public Radio (NPR), which has to be one of the most unlikely mixes of media and politics in a long time.

But, Trump was, as usual, Trump. About 10 minutes into the call, Trump hung up on NPR’s Steve Inskeep as the host repeatedly pressed Trump about his false claim that the 2020 election had been stolen from him.

I went through the transcript and pulled out the Trump quotes you need to see. They are down.

(Note: Why amplify, or cover up, Trump’s pronouncements? Simple. He’s giving every indication that he wants to run for president again in 2024, and all the polls suggest he’d be a heavy favorite for the nomination. If that were In the case of any more “normal” politician, we would cover all of his pronouncements. Just because Trump is Trump doesn’t mean we can—or should—ignore what he says. We need to cover it—and, when necessary, it always is. provide context and fact checking).

Biden lashes out at Trump a year after the assault on Capitol Hill 3:30

1. “Are we going to be live, Steve? We’re going to, huh?”

The interview was pre-recorded. So they weren’t going to be live. (In other news: “We’re doing it live!”) And here we go!

2. “Well, first of all, the mandate is really hurting our country.”

The question Inskeep asked: “What advice would you give to Americans who haven’t chosen to get vaccinated?” So, uh, yeah.

3. “And being the very…proud person who did so well with therapies and vaccines and everything else and did it in record time, you know, I have a lot to say on the subject.”

I believe that Trump is trying to point out that a) he is vaccinated and has the booster shot and b) when he contracted covid-19, he benefited from the treatments to treat it.

4. “If some people don’t want to, they shouldn’t have to wear them. They can’t be forced, as the expression goes. And I think that’s very important.”

Inskeep pressed Trump on what advice he would give to the unvaccinated. This is what the former president came up with. Also, there is no saying “they cannot be mandatory”.

5. “Personally, I feel very comfortable having taken them. I have had absolutely no reverb.”

Vaccines! Now with less reverb!

6. “I don’t know why they would be getting the vaccine for the most part, unless they were in a certain age group and had certain issues, whether it’s high blood pressure, diabetes, and, you know, various things in particular.

Trump is talking about people who have already contracted the virus here and arguing, against science, that they probably don’t need to get vaccinated. Also, diabetes [voz de Wilford Brimley].

7. “If you look at the numbers, if you look at the findings in Arizona, if you look at what’s happening in Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, by the way, and take a look at Wisconsin, it’s finding things that no one thought possible.”

[voz del narrador] They are not. Heck, even the grim “recount” of the ballots in Arizona’s Maricopa County showed that Biden would still have won.

8. “The number of ballots means nothing.”

Oh…

9. “Look at the number of votes. Go to Detroit and ask yourself, is it true that there are more votes than voters?”

I asked myself this. Then I read this verified fact and learned that there were NO more votes cast in Detroit than there were people. How did I discover this revealing and critical fact? A secret weapon I call “a Google search”. Check it out. Life change.

10. “Take a look at Detroit.”

¡Literally i just did that!

11. “Because Mitch McConnell is a loser.”

The question? “Why do you think the vast majority of your allies in the United States Senate do not support you? [sobre el fraude electoral]?” Just a note here: McConnell has won seven Senate races over a period of nearly 40 years. McConnell is also the longest-serving Republican leader in history. But I digress…

12. “Take a look at what’s happening right now in Pennsylvania.”

I did it. And I don’t think it proves the point that Trump is trying to make.

13. “Take a look at what’s going on in Wisconsin. Just take a look.”

Again, I did. And I discovered that a conservative group’s reexamination of the 2020 ballot in Wisconsin found “there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud.”

14. “In fact, they say, and I can’t testify because it’s been through many systems, many different systems. But they say, and they say it very strongly, the judges just… no one has had a chance to look.”

How?

15. “I said wait a minute. I’m the president of the United States. They just rigged an election. Hundreds of thousands of votes in different states. They just rigged an election.”

Whether or not you are president of the United States, this statement is false. There is simply no evidence of widespread voter fraud, either at the national or state level, in the 2020 election.

16. “We got, we got a number of votes that, I think you’ll agree, no sitting president has ever gotten the number of votes that I got.”

This is true! It is also misleading. As the population of the United States continues to grow, it makes sense that Trump would get more votes than the last sitting president who oversaw a country with fewer people! In addition, Trump got 74 million votes. The problem is that Joe Biden got 81 million.

17. “Do you think Biden got 80 million votes? Because I don’t.”

Well, given all the evidence you’ve cited to prove… oh wait.

18. “How come Biden couldn’t draw 20 people for a crowd? How come when he went to speak in different places, no one came to watch, but all of a sudden he got 80 million votes?”

Reminder: The 2020 election ended 435 days ago. And Trump keeps talking about the size of the crowd.

19. “People have no idea how big a problem this is and they don’t want it to happen again.”

Well, the “people” have no idea how big a problem voter fraud is and they don’t want it to happen again. Does it seem contradictory?

20. “So, Steve, thank you very much. I appreciate it.”

That’s the last thing Trump said before hanging up on Inskeep. And yes, this feels like a good place to end.
