(Trends Wide) — Stephanie Grisham spent years alongside the Trumps, serving as press secretary to then-President Donald Trump and as chief of staff to first lady Melania Trump.
Grisham resigned his job in protest after the January 6 riots in the US Capitol and has written a revealing book from his time at the center of the Trump storm, which will be published next week.
Excerpts from the book were leaked Tuesday, including what Grisham wrote about Trump’s “terrifying” temperament: West, “he wrote.
Trump, who never let any slight (real or perceived) pass, issued a statement through a spokeswoman that, in part, read:
“Stephanie didn’t have what it takes and that was obvious from the start. She was very angry and bitter after their breakup and as time went on, you could rarely trust her, or even think about her. big problems and we felt she had to solve those problems herself. Now, like everyone else, she has been paid by a radical left-wing publisher to say bad and false things. “
Yes, you read that right. The former US president said Grisham’s book should not be taken seriously because she was “very angry and bitter” after a love breakup.
(The relationship Trump is referring to is that of Grisham and former White House aide Max Miller, who is currently running for Congress in Ohio and faces some tough questions about his past behavior.)
Trump’s disdain for Grisham’s book – and Grisham herself – as just a bitter woman on the wrong side of a breakup is appalling even by his decidedly low standards.
If you expect there to be a response from Republican elected officials to Trump’s attack on Grisham, you haven’t paid much attention to politics for the past five years.
This, like so many excesses and inappropriate comments by Trump, will be ignored or, in some quarters, even defended.
The Point: When we don’t denounce things like this from Trump, we tacitly tolerate them. And look where that has led the Republican Party.
