Tunisian Tourism Minister Habib Ammar announced on Friday the resumption of tourism travel agencies’ trips from April 19, in light of the improvement in the epidemiological situation in the country.
The minister explained during a press conference after a meeting of the Coronavirus Committee that the resumption of the flights will be according to a protocol and procedures that will be controlled later in coordination with the Ministry of Health.
Tourist trips returned for a short period in the summer of 2020 after the closure measures that accompanied the first wave of the Corona pandemic, before they stopped again with the spread of the deadly virus more quickly during the second wave.

Ammar said, “This period of the season is considered very important for the tourism sector, given that all tourist destinations begin to present their offers,” noting that Tunisia is a well-known destination in the Mediterranean and must be ready.
The Minister of Tourism added that the Tunisian destination must be competitive in terms of conditions of arrival and entry, and safe from a health point of view.
He continued, “We hope that the vaccination rate will be more rapid,” explaining that the progress in vaccination will give more attractiveness to the Tunisian tourist destination.
The vital tourism sector is the most affected sector by the Corona pandemic, and thousands of craftsmen active in the tourism markets, artists and professionals in the cultural sector have also been affected.
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, the sector decreased by 65 percent in revenues in 2020 compared to 2019, and the number of arrivals decreased by about 80 percent.
