Tunisian Defense Minister Ibrahim Al-Bartaji revealed on Wednesday information that terrorist elements have moved to take advantage of the protests taking place in the country for days.
Al-Bartaji said during a parliamentary session to discuss the protests taking place in the country, that “the security establishment had information about terrorist elements moving to exploit night movements to carry out terrorist operations to strike the security and stability of the country.”
The minister did not give any other details about the identity of the terrorist group to which these elements belong, while he talked about the recent seizure of some Takfiri elements, and the confiscation of white weapons and Molotov cocktails that were in their possession.
In a related context, Al-Bartaji denied that the security forces used excessive force in the face of the recent protests.
Since Thursday, several governorates and neighborhoods in the capital, Tunis, have witnessed night protests, interspersed with clashes with security men, coinciding with the entry into force of a night curfew, as part of anti-Corona measures.
The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of more than 600 people on charges of rioting during the past four days, while Prime Minister Hisham Al-Mashishi called on all popular, civil and party parties in his country to “not be dragged into the military and incitement campaigns, and not to resort to violence, spread rumors and confuse state institutions.
