The director of the National Observatory for New and Emerging Diseases in Tunisia, Nassaf Ben Alia, said that the mutated Corona strains, if they enter the country in a third wave, may lead to the collapse of the health system.
Nassaf bin Aliya reported that the emergence of mutated strains of the Coronavirus in the world contributed to the resurgence of the virus in a number of countries, despite its launch in vaccination operations against this virus.
She added that the preventive measures imposed on arrivals to Tunisia, by compelling them to compulsory quarantine, were taken in order to prevent the spread of these mutated strains in Tunisia, revealing that “Tunisia has not yet achieved control over the epidemiological situation.”
She indicated that the Scientific Committee for Confronting the Coronavirus will devote its regular meeting on Tuesday, to determine the indicators of the epidemiological situation, assess the risks associated with it, and enact the necessary recommendations about preventive measures and the possibility of continuing to work with them or not before submitting them to the committee.
It indicated the presence of virus mutations, but there are no epidemiological data confirming the presence of mutant strains with a rapid spread.
