Tunisian Prime Minister Hicham El-Mechichi said that his country is currently witnessing “irregular calls to include the military establishment in political life and to harm state institutions.”
The remarks came on the sidelines of the funeral of the writer and left-wing political activist Gilbar Niqash, on Wednesday.
Calls had been launched recently in Tunisia to dissolve parliament and deploy the army, against the background of the escalating political crisis between the various currents in the country.
Earlier this month, the former Secretary-General of the Democratic Current, Mohamed Abbou, called for the deployment of the army at the request of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces in cities and all production areas, and the mobilization of security forces to maintain order and combat crime, and put the politicians who are suspected of corruption under house arrest.
