Turkey decided to ban parties from being held in ski resorts, after videos of crowded parties circulating sparking outrage in the country.
The Turkish Interior Ministry said: “The activities that take place in the ski resorts, and violate the rules of social distancing and the wearing of masks, pose a great danger to public health.”
She added, “The ban will be applied to music and concerts on all weekends.”
Turkish authorities have exempted ski resorts from some restrictions, which include complete lockdowns at the weekend, meaning that skiers can enjoy the sport while the rest of the population is confined to their homes.
Headlines expressing anger appeared in the media over video footage circulating on social media this week.
The main opposition party accused the government of “allowing the rich to celebrate while ordinary citizens and small businesses suffer from the restrictions and consequences of Corona.”
