Turkey seeks to sign a free trade agreement with Mexico

With a view to strengthening the commercial relationship and increasing investments with Mexico, the Government of Turkey does not take his finger off the line to agree on a FTA between both nations.

During his speech on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, the Turkish ambassador to Mexico, İlhan Kemal Tuğ, assured that the signing of a trade agreement as soon as possible remains a mission for his country.

He also highlighted that among the priorities is increase tourist exchange for which he announced that as of November 1 the flight frequencies will increase to 11 per week.

“Turkish Airlines’ launch of direct flights to Mexico in August 2019 has accelerated our cultural, commercial and tourist relations,” he said during the celebration held at the official residence on October 28.

The bridges built through direct dialogue between our societies greatly contribute to the mutual promotion of our cultures,” said the Turkish ambassador.

The diplomat reported that the secretary of External relationshipsMarcelo Ebrard, will make a working visit to Turkey on November 17.

“We are determined to continue promoting our bilateral relations, which have continued without interruption since 1927 (…) as a result of the pandemic, we hope that they will resume with more force due to the next official visit by Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard. In the same way, we would like to express our desire to welcome our president on Mexican soil”, he declared.

With the inauguration of Turkish Cultural Center in Mexico City, during this year, emphasized that the Turkish culture is made known to Mexicans from gastronomy to traditions. Teaching the Turkish language is also part of building cultural bridges, he said.

Actor global

The ambassador assured that his country will continue to be a global actor, which is why he stressed that “we can summarize Turkish foreign policy in one sentence: peace at home, peace in the world.”

“The solution to face global challenges depends on cooperative efforts and effective multilateralism,” he said.

He recalled that his country is contributing efforts on various challenges, including the war between Russia and Ukraine and mass migration.
