Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar expressed Ankara’s hope for further progress in the ongoing consultations with Greece aimed at easing tensions between the two countries.
In a press statement he made today, following a meeting in Berlin with German Defense Minister Angret Kramp Karnbauer, Akar indicated that the military delegations from Turkey and Greece held the eighth technical meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels with the aim of establishing mechanisms to avoid clashes in the eastern Mediterranean.
The Turkish minister added that Ankara expects Athena to attach more importance to the upcoming meetings to be more effective, adding: “We are waiting for the Greeks in Ankara to complete the confidence-building meetings that we have started.”
The Turkish Minister of Defense praised Germany’s mediation efforts to settle differences between Ankara and Athens, saying that Berlin “is acting in a coherent and principled manner in this regard, and its firm stance is reassuring.” NATO and other countries. “
Akar emphasized that his meeting with his German counterpart was “very constructive,” adding: “I think we will take concrete steps with Germany in the coming days regarding defense and security files.”
