Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu affirmed that his country is working with France to lay down a roadmap for the normalization of bilateral relations, indicating “progress” in this path.
During a joint press conference held with his Portuguese counterpart Santos Silva in Lisbon, Çavuşolu held the French side responsible for the existing tensions between Ankara and Paris, saying that Turkey is not categorically opposed to France, but rather that France is the one that is strongly opposing Turkey since Ankara launched the “Spring” operation Peace “against the Kurdish units in northeastern Syria in the fall of 2019.
In the end, he made a “very constructive” call with his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, which culminated in an agreement on the need to develop a roadmap for the normalization of relations between the two countries.
He said that the two parties had begun to work on this road map and “things are going well” in this way, adding: “If France is sincere, then Turkey is ready to restore relations with it to normal.”
The Turkish foreign minister also expressed his conviction that relations between his country and the European Union as a whole require a “better atmosphere”.
