Turkish Coast Guard rescues refugees in the Aegean Sea – Archive
Turkish Coast Guard teams rescued about 60 migrants and asylum seekers in two separate incidents in the sea in the west of the country.
In the first incident, the teams managed to rescue 34 immigrants in the southwestern state of Mugla, after a group of migrants was spotted on a rubber boat at sea while they were on patrol off the coast of Bodrum district.
The Coast Guard pointed out that “the teams transported the migrants to a coast guard boat and brought them to the port of justice.”
In a similar incident, Coast Guard crews rescued 26 asylum seekers, who were forced by Greece to return to Turkish territorial waters off the coast of Aywajiq district in the northwestern state of Çanakkale.
