The ministry stated, in a statement posted on its Twitter account, on Saturday, that “terrorists belonging to the PKK / YBK organization attempted to infiltrate the area of Operation Peace Spring to destabilize the security and stability environment there.”
The ministry added, “The Turkish commando forces thwarted the infiltration attempt and managed to neutralize 3 terrorists.”
The Turkish army launched Operation Peace Spring, east of the Euphrates River in northern Syria, on October 9, 2019, announcing that its “goal is to cleanse the area from the YPG / PKK terrorists and ISIS, and to create a safe area for the return of Syrian refugees to their country.
On October 17, the Turkish army suspended the operation after Ankara and Washington reached an agreement to withdraw terrorists from the region, followed by an agreement with Russia in Sochi on the 22nd of the same month.
Last Wednesday, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, accompanied by the Chief of Staff and army commanders, inspected the Turkish military units stationed on the border with Syria.
