Soylu directed his account on “Twitter” to the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Elva Johansson, and said, commenting on the clip, “Will Greece not be held accountable for these crimes that are condoned by the European Agency for Border and Coast Guard (Frontex)”.
He pointed out that “3 out of 5 immigrants lost their lives by drowning as a result of a hole in the lifeboat that the Greek forces left them in order to return them to Turkish territorial waters after beating them.”
“Hey, Mrs. Elva Johansson, torture and inhuman treatment by Greece is starting to turn into crimes,” he added.
The minister attached the tweet to a statement by the Turkish Coast Guard leadership, who confirmed that they had received information on December 19 about the presence of irregular migrants on board a lifeline off the coast of Ras Aslan in Futsche district, Izmir.
The statement pointed out that “the migrants who were rescued were beaten by the Greek forces, their valuables were stolen, and they were placed in life rings in order to return them to Turkish territorial waters.”
The statement pointed out that “five of the migrants fell into the sea after a hole in a lifeline, three of them died and two were rescued.”
In the video clip, one of the migrants spoke about the ill treatment they were subjected to by the Greek forces, and said that they “sailed in the morning and that the Greek police caught them after two hours and took their money and bags and beat them, and brought a boat and put five people in it, before two were taken out and 3 of them drowned.” .
“Then they put the three people who drowned in a boat and put the rest in plastic boats without a motor and left us in the middle of the sea, so I called the Turkish coast guard to rescue us,” the migrant said.
