Vice President of the opposition Republican People’s Party, Otko Chakrauser, commented on the proposal of a law in the Turkish Parliament authorizing the Turkish Ministry of Interior to appoint “trustees for associations” that if this proposal becomes law, human rights, women’s rights and refugee rights associations, associations and institutions working in the field of children’s and youth rights will face the risk of closure .
He added: Through this law, our relations with the world will not improve by restricting the activities of civil society and concealing rights violations, explaining that there is no success in foreign and diplomatic policy, and it is not possible to open the new page with the European Union by appointing secretaries of associations and civil society.
In his speech before the People’s Assembly, Chakker Ozer called for the cancellation of the articles of the draft law that authorize the Ministry of Interior to dismiss the directors of associations and to appoint trustees in their place without judicial permission from the Law on Preventing the Proliferation and Financing of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
In assessing Turkey’s foreign policy, Chuck Ozer said that the sovereignty of democracy and the rule of law in the country is the basic guarantee for success in international relations.
