Oktay added in a TV interview, “Turkey has always taken a constructive stance on the Cyprus issue, as it has consistently called for a solution that would ensure the island’s people live cowardly side by side on the basis of justice and equal rights. However, the Roman side constantly faced the matter with bad intentions.”
He pointed out that the federation could not be dissolved on the island any longer, stressing the need to negotiate a two-state solution, on the basis of equality and common rights.
He explained that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sent clear messages to the United States, the European Union, and the entire international community, in this context, about the need to act with impartiality and fairness if they wish to contribute to the solution on the island.
He pointed out that “the foreign policies of the European Union and some of its member states have become hostages to the Greek and Greek sides, which constitutes an obstacle to freely taking decisions.”
He stated that the attention of countries is turning towards the eastern Mediterranean recently, after the discovery of hydrocarbon sources in them, calling for a fair sharing of those wealth, and for the need for it to be a tool for peace rather than conflict.
He added that his country had submitted a proposal on how to fairly share the region’s wealth, and that it was still valid.
