For the first time in their lives, twin brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson will be living apart after being picked by different teams in the NBA Draft.
The Thompson twins are the first siblings ever taken in the top five when they were taken back to back. Amen was taken first, when the Houston Rockets picked him fourth overall. Then, with the next pick, Ausar was selected by the Detroit Pistons.
But in the process of cleaning out their house, Amen explained that they needed to divide some of their more valuable belongings among themselves.
‘He got to keep the PS5,’ Amen explained. ‘I got to buy me one. That’s the main [contested item] so far.Â
‘But we’ve been fighting over shoes too… these Jordan Travis Scotts, he got those too. I’m losing everything. It’s like a bad divorce.’
Twin brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson have to divide their belongings after the draft
The Thompsons are the fifth set of twins selected in the same draft in the history of the NBA
The twins are the first pair to be selected since Markieff and Marcus Morris were taken back-to-back at 13th and 14th in the 2011 NBA Draft out of Kansas.
Amen and Ausar did not attend college, opting instead for the Overtime Elite basketball league.
That league was founded in 2021, giving players a minimum salary of $100k a year as well as a signing bonus, shares in a business, and participating in an academic program.
These brothers were the first players to be drafted into the NBA from the Overtime Elite program.
The Thompsons are the fifth pair of twins to be picked in the same NBA draft, joining the aforementioned Morris twins as well as Dick and Tom Van Arsdale in 1965, Jason and Jarron Collins in 2001, and Brook and Robin Lopez in 2008.
Horace and Harvey Grant were also twins drafted into the NBA, but they were selected in separate years – with Horace picked in 1987 and Harvey in 1988.
