After what Twitter Inc. laid off nearly half of its staff on Friday following Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover, the company is contacting dozens of employees who lost their jobs and asking them to return, Bloomberg News reported Sunday.
Some of those contacted were mistakenly fired. Others were fired before management realized that their work and experience might be needed to create the new features that Musk provides, according to the report, citing people familiar with the movements.
Twitter recently laid off 50% of its employees, including part of the trust and safety team, the company’s chief security and integrity officer, Yoel Roth, said in a tweet earlier in the week.
Tweets from staff at the social media company said that teams responsible for communications, content curation, human rights and machine learning ethics were among those depleted, as were some product and engineering teams.
Twitter updated its app on the App Store on Saturday Apple to start charging $8 for blue checkmarks, in the first major overhaul of Musk’s social media platform.
Twitter did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
