São Paulo, Brazil (CNN) – Twitter cited a tweet by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, in which he praised antimalarials as an early treatment against the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19), which the scientific and medical community denied.
In the message posted Friday evening, the social network said the post violated the platform’s rules “about spreading misleading and possibly harmful information related to COVID-19.”
But Twitter said the tweet would remain available because it “could be of general use”.
At the end of March, Twitter dropped two more Bolsonaro tweets and blocked his account, after the president appeared to be encouraging disobedience to social distancing measures. His account was unblocked after he deleted the posts.
