(Trends Wide Español) — Two minors, a two-year-old girl and a three-month-old boy, were found alone on the bank of the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass in Texas, the U.S. Border Patrol said in a statement Tuesday.
The minors are siblings, originally from Honduras. According to the statement, both were found by agents carrying out operations and who noticed unusual colors on the riverbank.
The girl wore pink pants and a yellow shirt, the baby was in a blue baby carrier. The agents investigated the area, looking for an adult accompanying them, but reported that the minors had been abandoned at the border.
The little ones are in good shape and were transferred to a processing station in Uvalde, Texas.
Trends Wide contacted CBP for additional details about the children.
On a daily basis, US Customs and Border Protection finds about 400 unaccompanied children, based on the 30-day average provided by the administration.
That figure excludes children from Mexico, most of whom are repatriated. Once processed, the minors are released into the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services, which is charged with their care until they can be relocated with a sponsor, such as a parent or relative, in the United States.
