The French presidency said in a statement at dawn on Sunday that two French soldiers were killed in Mali.
“The President of the Republic learned with great sadness the death of two soldiers from the Second Cavalry Regiment in the city of Hagenau, Mali,” the presidency stated in the statement.
The presidency added that the attack was carried out with an explosive device that hit their armored vehicle during an intelligence mission in the Menaka region.
She indicated that a third soldier was wounded in the attack, stressing that his condition was not serious.
She stated in the statement that Macron salutes those soldiers who died for France while performing their duty.
She explained that he shares their families, loved ones and brothers in arms, and assures them of the nation’s gratitude and solidarity with them, stressing that the president renews France’s determination to fight terrorism.
