Two people were killed, 14 others were injured, and 16 are still missing, after landslides and floods caused by torrential rains hit the East Java region of Indonesia.

According to the emergency response unit of the Nganguk Social Affairs Agency, rescuers were able to recover two bodies and save two people in Nganguk district.
“Heavy lifting equipment is currently on its way to the site, and there are 16 people who have not been found so far,” the official Indonesian news agency Antara quoted the unit’s coordinator, Aris Trio Effendi, as saying today.
Effendi said the area, which includes many homes, is prone to landslides, and at least 13 homes have been severely damaged.
At least 160 people have been evacuated, he added.
It is reported that Indonesia is often subjected to landslides and flash floods during the rainy season.
