The newspaper “Yediot Aharonot” reported that the United Arab Emirates has postponed preparations for the summit with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the presence of a senior official in the administration of US President Joe Biden.
The Israeli newspaper reported that the summit, expected to be held in Abu Dhabi in April, was under suspicion after it was reported that the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was “angry” at Netanyahu’s alleged use of the normalization deal for electoral purposes.
Although the summit has not been officially announced, Netanyahu has hinted at a possible summit in interviews he has given over the past several days. According to the newspaper, Arab heads of state have been chosen to participate in it.
This report comes against the background of the UAE’s rejection of Netanyahu’s alleged attempts to accommodate a visit to Abu Dhabi before the Knesset elections next week.
The former UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anwar Gargash, expressed his rejection of the suggestion that his country might be used as an electoral tool to assist a “friendly government.”
Gargash wrote on Twitter: “From the point of view of the UAE, the aim of the agreements is to provide a strong strategic basis for promoting peace and prosperity with the State of Israel and in the wider region,” stressing that “the UAE will not be a party to any internal electoral process in Israel,” Now or at any time. “
