A bantamweight matchup at UFC 320 has been marred by controversy after Macy Chiasson failed to make weight, drawing sharp criticism and accusations of unsportsmanlike conduct from her opponent, Yana Santos.
The controversy began during Friday’s official weigh-ins when the No. 5-ranked Chiasson came in 1.5 pounds over the bantamweight limit. This marks the second time she has missed weight in her UFC career, significantly impacting her title aspirations.
Santos quickly took to social media to voice her frustration, accusing Chiasson of deliberately seeking an unfair advantage. According to Santos, the commission offered Chiasson an additional hour to cut the remaining weight, an offer she allegedly declined.
“The worst part? The commission offered her an extra hour to make weight. She REFUSED,” Santos claimed. “Why? Because she wants an unfair advantage. This isn’t just unprofessional—it’s straight-up dirty.”
In an earlier post, Santos had already criticized her opponent’s lack of professionalism. “Imagine signing a contract and showing up overweight AGAIN,” she wrote. “Some of us respect the grind. Others disrespect the sport. See you Saturday.”
The sentiment was echoed by Santos’s husband, former UFC title challenger Thiago Santos, who called for stricter penalties for fighters who miss weight.
“Unbelievable how some people are not professional in this sport,” Thiago Santos stated. “It’s Yana’s 4th opponent that didn’t make the weight. Some stronger punishments have to be made.”
The bout is part of the UFC 320 pay-per-view event, which is headlined by the light heavyweight title rematch between Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev, and a bantamweight title defense by Merab Dvalishvili against Cory Sandhagen in the co-main event.
