She announced Ukraine -Today, Sunday- it shot down a guided missile and 10 of the 12 drones it launched Russia In a new night attack, Moscow was accused of committing a war crime after executing Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered to it.
The Ukrainian Air Force said that Russian forces used 12 Iranian-made “Shahed” drones, which Moscow frequently uses against its neighbor.
Kiev has strengthened its air defense systems with Western weapons since last winter, when Russia systematically targeted Ukrainian energy facilities.
Millions of people were then deprived of electricity, and thus of heating, in light of the extreme cold, which is what Ukraine wants to avoid happening this year. But Kiev asserts that it needs more weapons to protect its regions.
On the other hand, on Sunday, Moscow accused Kiev of launching several strikes in the Russian Belgorod region on the border with Ukraine, without causing casualties or major damage.
Several villages were targeted with drones and artillery shelling, according to local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
Accusation and investigation
On the other hand, Kiev accused Moscow of committing a war crime by executing Ukrainian soldiers who expressed their intention to surrender, after footage showing this was spread on social networks.
A short video clip posted on Telegram – which Agence France-Presse said it had not verified its authenticity – showed two men leaving a shelter, one of them placing his hands above his head, before throwing themselves on the ground next to another group of soldiers. This is followed by what appears to be gunfire and smoke before the undated video suddenly cuts off.
The Donetsk Prosecutor’s Office indicated on Sunday that the footage was filmed near the village of Stepovi, near the city of Avdiivka (east), where fighting is raging between Russian and Ukrainian forces, stressing that this was based on “preliminary information.”
He noted on Telegram that the footage showed “a group of people wearing Russian military uniforms” shooting two “unarmed” Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered themselves.
He announced the opening of an investigation into the facts, recalling that “the execution of prisoners of war” constitutes a “serious international crime.”
