- Ukrainian intelligence explained Thursday its agents experienced seized propaganda identified within Russian Orthodox churches.
- In a statement, Ukraine’s SBU also claimed it identified Russian passports and looted icons.
- It also unveiled a photograph of those agents that bundled a cat whose encounter was blurred.
Ukraine’s chief intelligence agency on Thursday mentioned its agents had seized Kremlin propaganda inside of Russian Orthodox church buildings, releasing a photo of its brokers that for some rationale incorporated a cat whose identification was also concealed.
In a statement, the Protection Service of Ukraine, or SBU, mentioned that lookups of Russian Orthodox properties in previously occupied eastern portions of the place also uncovered Russian passports, flags representing the Russian-backed Luhansk and Donestk peoples republics, and a “collection of icons stolen by rioters” from the Lithuanian consul in Kherson.
The SBU also claimed to have found documents indicating that Russian Orthodox priests ended up collaborating with the Russian government and its occupation authorities in Kherson. Ukrainian forces liberated the metropolis of Kherson in early November right after practically 9 months of Russian occupation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused the Russian Orthodox Church of seeking to “weaken Ukraine from within” amid calls from some to ban the business. In September, Patriarch Kirill I, the head of the church, mentioned Russian troopers who died in Ukraine would be absolved of their sins.
But maybe the most notice-grabbing component of the SBU’s assertion was not what it claimed to have found but who it suggested took part in getting it. A photograph provided in the launch exhibits 7 human beings identified as “SBU employees,” their faces blurred to conceal their identities. At their ft, however, is a black cat sitting down on a mattress of snow — its confront also pixelated. (A 2nd cat with no a crystal clear experience, but what appears to be an ear and suggestion of a tail, seems to be near some agents’ toes.)
It is unclear what if any function the animal performed in the counter-intelligence investigation. The SBU did not right away return a ask for for remark.
