A United Launch Alliance Atlas V 551 rocket is scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, carrying 27 satellites for Amazon’s Project Kuiper constellation. Liftoff from Space Launch Complex 41 is targeted for 8:09 a.m. EDT (1209 UTC).
This mission represents the third batch of production satellites launched by ULA and the fifth deployment overall for the growing low Earth orbit network. Upon completion, the number of Kuiper satellites in orbit will increase to 129.
The satellites will initially be deployed into an orbit 280 miles (450 kilometers) above Earth. Control will then be transferred to the Project Kuiper mission operations center in Redmond, Washington. Teams there will confirm the health of the satellites before raising them to their final operational altitude of 392 miles (630 kilometers).
