UNITEC announces the 5 winners of the Awards for Technological Innovation for Social Development 2022

Projects focused on recycling, water carecare for the agricultural sector and the environment in general, were the winning initiatives of the Technological Innovation Awards for Social Development 2022, organized by the Technological University of Mexico (UNITEC), which is celebrating its ninth edition in order to support the technological innovation of the country’s youth.

“We are committed to supporting technological innovation aimed at social development, and the Awards for Technological Innovation for Social Development are a clear example of this. We are very proud to be able to deliver these awards for the ninth time to five great initiatives that will surely have a considerable impact on Innovation and Social Development in Mexico”, said Marcelo Cardoso, Vice President and Operations Director of Laureate Mexico.

The five selected projects were chosen from among 49 proposals, and as a prize, in addition to the award, they got 75,000 pesosas well as an intensive training program to better promote your idea and support to spread your initiative in the country.

“Without a doubt, in a couple of years we will see how these seeds will take root and become great initiatives that will drive the Mexico of tomorrow. Keep crystallizing your ideas, our Mexico needs you”, highlighted Cardoso.

The winners were chosen for their potential, ability to execute as well as the impact they will have on the ecosystem. The chosen ones are:

MAROD

Katya Lizeth Gómez Vargas, a student at UNITEC Campus Ecatepec, designed a strategy focused on generating an automated system of recycled material blinds that store solar energy from the integration of light-following photocells, thus lighting rooms with little access to sunlight.

Water purification by high frequency waves

The project was presented by Yissel Julieta Trujillo Cortés, from the ISU University, which consists of producing devices for purification and elimination of coliform bacteria in water from high-frequency sound waves.

Plasmacell

Laura Rosina Torres Ortega, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, aimed to treat skin lesions, for which she developed a spray based on cold plasma, which exalts its cell proliferation and antimicrobial properties, with which it will be able to help speed healing without causing pain as with traditional methods.

Celal-Mex

Adolfo Martín Mondragón Espinal, from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Studies, worked on manufacturing cellulose and bioplastics from organic waste from the pineapple industry. With this, his mission is to achieve the integration of a circular economy in the agricultural sector.

Biojuajma

Alma Lorena Mondragón Espinal, from the Universidad Mexiquense del Bicentenario, is inspired by the biogeneration of soil from the biotransfer of nutrients, thereby achieving a remineralization effect and recovery of the porosity of a dry, unsaturated soil. With this idea, you can have crops with improved yields.
