According to projections, the number of people facing catastrophic food insecurity between November 2024 and April 2025 is expected to reach 345,000 people, representing about 16% of the population of Gaza.
Reports stated that the “sharp decline” in aid income will significantly affect families’ ability to feed their members and obtain basic goods and services.
The chief economist said World Food ProgrammeArif Hussein, said that the economic situation in Gaza has deteriorated, as “commercial supplies have declined, large-scale displacement has occurred, infrastructure has been destroyed, agriculture has collapsed, and people have no money.”
Humanitarian aid
The Secretary-General of the United Nations called, António Guterresstressed the need to urgently open border crossings and remove bureaucratic obstacles to ensure the arrival of necessary humanitarian aid. He stressed that the current situation, with widespread hunger and the threat of famine in Gaza, “is unacceptable.”
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees warned (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, from the risk of famine in the Strip, which is suffering from widespread destruction due to Israeli military operations.
Concerns are growing that continued Israeli aggression and restricted access to humanitarian aid may lead to the risk of famine in the Gaza Strip. It is also expected that about 60,000 cases of acute malnutrition will be recorded among children between the ages of 6 months and 4 years.
On the other hand, the United States warned Israel that it may freeze part of its military aid estimated at billions of dollars if the delivery of aid to Gaza does not improve within 30 days.
