The United Nations warned of the humanitarian repercussions due to the escalation of fighting between the Yemeni government forces and the “Ansar Allah” Houthi movement in Marib, in the northeast of the country.
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock said in a tweet via Twitter: “I am extremely concerned about the military escalation taking place in Marib and its potential repercussions on the humanitarian situation.
He added: “Any military attack on Marib would put up to two million civilians in danger and would result in the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, which would lead to unimaginable humanitarian consequences.”
He continued: “It is now time to calm down, and not to multiply more misery for the Yemeni people … I will give a briefing at the Security Council next Thursday.”
I am very concerned about the military escalation taking place in Marib and its possible repercussions on the humanitarian situation.
