(Trends Wide) — The federal indictment against former President Donald Trump and an aide, Walt Nauta, in the case over the classified documents, was unsealed this Friday, Trends Wide was able to confirm.
Trump and Nauta were indicted on 38 counts, according to unsealed court documents. Trump, in particular, faces a total of 37 counts, including 31 counts of willful withholding of national defense information.
“The purpose of the conspiracy was for TRUMP to take classified documents that he took with him from the White House and hide and conceal them from a federal grand jury,” the indictment says.
Trump aide Walt Nauta found classified documents in December 2021 that had fallen from boxes on the floor of the storage room where they were kept at Mar-a-Lago.
The documents included intelligence that could only be released to the “Five Eyes” countries, an intelligence-sharing alliance made up of the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, according to the indictment.
Nauta texted another Trump employee: “I opened the door and found this,” including two photos of the dropped documents. At least one of the photographs, shown in the indictment, contained classified information.
Classified documents contained information on US defense and nuclear capabilities.
The indictment says that the classified documents Trump stored in boxes included information about the defense and weapons capabilities of both the US and foreign countries, including US nuclear programs.
It also claims that the documents contained information about the possible vulnerabilities of the US and its allies to a military attack, as well as plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack.
“The classified documents that Trump stored in his boxes included information about the defense and weapons capabilities of both the United States and foreign countries; United States nuclear programs; potential vulnerabilities of the United States and its allies to military attack; and plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack,” the indictment reads.
According to the indictment, Trump kept documents from various intelligence branches of the US government, including the CIA, the Department of Defense, the National Security Agency, the Department of Energy and the Department of State.
