Australia issues massive car recall over faults that could cause serious injury or DEATH in popular models from Toyota, Kia, Suzuki, Jeep and Volvo
- Thousands of cars nationwide urgently recalled due to serious defects detected
- Product Safety Australia alert affects Suzuki, Volvo, Kia & Jeep Cherokee models
- Include door harness wires, fuel supply pipes and transmission oil cooler hose
- Thousands more Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota C-HR SUVs later added
More vehicle models have been added to an urgent nationwide recall after a spate of serious faults which could potentially cause injury or death were detected.
Product Safety Australia issued a series of recalls on thousands of vehicles on Sunday which affect popular models including Suzuki, Volvo, Kia, and Jeep Cherokees.
More than 11,600 Jeep Grand Cherokees and 7,671 Toyota C-HR SUVs were added to the list on Sunday night.
Owners of a Toyota C-HR (NGX10 and NGX50) SUV with model years 2019-2021 need to be aware of a faulty fuel pump defect, which could spark a fuel leak in the engine compartment and may result in an engine bay fire.
‘A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders,’ the alert states.
Suzuki issued an alert for more than 4,000 Jimny A6G415 (pictured) vehicles manufactured in 2019 and 2020
Around 11,632 Jeep Grand Cherokees (WK) with the model years 2014-2015 due to a potentially faulty crankshaft position sensor.
The fault may result in the engine stalling and the inability to restart the engine, increasing the risk of an accident causing injury or death.
Earlier in the day, Suzuki issued an alert for more than 4,000 Jimny A6G415 vehicles manufactured in 2019 and 2020 due to door harness wires which could be damaged or cut by the repeated motion of opening or closing the doors.
‘If the wires are cut or damaged, this may cause the curtain and side airbags to not deploy correctly,’ the alert states.
‘In the event of an accident, this could increase the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants.’
More than 200 Jeep Cherokees (KL) made in 2021 have also been recalled over fears the transmission oil cooler hose may have been manufactured with incorrectly cured rubber, which could cause transmission fluid to leak and spark a car fire
More than 760 Kia MQ4 Sorento and KA4 Carnival 2021 models fitted with 3.5L Lambda Gen 3 engines were also recalled.
This was due to a faulty fuel supply pipe which may have been damaged during manufacturing, which could result in a fuel leak and engine compartment fire.
More than 200 Jeep Cherokees (KL) made in 2021 have also been recalled over fears the transmission oil cooler hose may have been manufactured with incorrectly cured rubber, which could cause transmission fluid to leak and spark a car fire.
Some 527 Vovlo UD pPNLT Quon trucks from 2017-2019 are also on the recall list, as some of the bearing cups in the front and/or interaxles have been assembled without a thrust washer.
The universal joint may ultimately break if the vehicle is operated with this defect, potentially disastrous when the car is in motion.
There are also serious concerns about more than 200 Suzuki Jimny A6G415 vehicles built in 2018 due to an incorrect manufacturing process with the fuel pump, which could become inoperative and cause the engine to stall while driving.
Affected car owners will be contacted directly and are urged to contact their nearest authorised dealer service department to arrange inspection and repair.
