Los websites of several of the main airports of USA stopped working briefly on Monday after a computer attack promoted by a group of pro-Russian cyber hackers.
It was a denial-of-service (DDOS) attack, which involves taking a website offline by flooding it with traffic.
The attacks affected airport websites in several major cities, such as Atlanta, Chicago, The Angels, New York, Phoenix y St. Louisafter the pro-Russian hacking group known as KillNet published a list of sites and encouraged their followers to attack them.
Los DDOS attacks they only affected the public part of the sites that provide information on flights and services, and had no impact on operations.
The airport Hartsfield-Jacksonof Atlantasaid its website is “up and running after an incident early this morning that made it inaccessible to the public.”
“An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway,” it added. “At no time were operations at the airport affected.”
After being temporarily down, most websites appear to be working normally.
KillNet last week claimed responsibility for attacks on several US government websites and has targeted other countries that oppose Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
There was no immediate comment from the Infrastructure Security and Cybersecurity Agency of the United States (CISA).
