The caravan, which was parked on a street in the center of the largest city in Tennessee, exploded at dawn on Friday, moments after police dealt with reports of gunfire in the area, noticed the mobile home and heard an automatic message issued by it warning of a bomb.
Police said they did not immediately know the means of the detonation and whether there was anyone inside the caravan when it exploded, but investigators are examining what they believe are human remains that were found near the site of the explosion.
Police did not provide any possible motive and no one has claimed responsibility, although Nashville police officials described the explosion as a “deliberate act” and pledged to identify its source.
