On Sunday, Texas authorities said a gunman killed a pastor at a church in the eastern state of the state, and wounded at least another person before fleeing the scene and being arrested by police in a nearby county.
Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith told reporters that the pastor of Starville Church in Winona discovered a man hiding in the church bathroom and confronted him with a gun. Smith added that the man then grabbed the pastor’s pistol and shot the two victims before stealing a car from the chapel parking lot.
Smith said police chased the suspect and shot him while he was caught in Marshall, adding that he is now under investigation for premeditated murder. Smith did not name the suspect and the pastor.
Earlier today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed his condolences to the family of the dead and injured in the accident at Starville Church, and said that the state will work to ensure that justice is done.
