The Qatari Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, discussed with the US special envoy on Iran, Robert Mali, by phone, developments in the region, with a focus on the Iranian issue.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Al-Thani received a phone call on Thursday from Mali during which he “reviewed the bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries, and the latest developments in the region, especially in Iran.”
Doha entered the mediation line between Washington and Tehran in an attempt to bridge the gap between the two rivals on contentious issues, most notably the Iranian nuclear program.
Earlier Thursday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that his country would not accept any change in the nuclear deal, stressing the need to lift sanctions in order to resolve issues through diplomatic means.
