The United States government registered more than 1.7 million people detained in fiscal year 2021 – which ended in September – according to Border Patrol data published by The Washington Post. Most of the detained migrants are Mexicans (608,000) and the second largest group (367,000) is composed of Haitians, Venezuelans, Ecuadorians, Brazilians and Cubans. The period of the year with the most arrests was July and August, with more than 200,000 migrants arrested by the Border Patrol.
