The US Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayoras, said, “Domestic terrorism is one of the biggest threats facing the United States, especially since its threat remains.”
“The vision of the insurgency and the horrific actions of 6 January were not only devastating on a personal level, but also created in me a commitment to redouble our efforts to fight hate and fight one of the biggest threats we currently face to our homeland, which is domestic terrorism,” Mayoras said in an interview with CNN.
Mayoras stressed that the threat of domestic terrorism “continues,” stressing that the ministry will continue to work with its partners at the state level and local partners to combat it.
He added, “One of the challenges we face is defining the line between hate speech and hateful action.”
On the other hand, Mayoras, who will chair the task force for reuniting dispersed families on the US-Mexico border, considered that “the cruelty of the previous administration has ended.”
He said, “I am a father, a husband, a son, and a brother .. I have never heard of harsher pain than separating families,” stressing that “our responsibility is to reunite families and support and facilitate their recovery.”
