The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, confirmed that Saudi Arabia is an important security partner for his country, but he stressed that Washington will raise the issue of human rights within the framework of relations with Riyadh.
Blinken indicated, in a tweet posted this evening, Saturday via “Twitter”, that he had a telephone conversation with the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, on Friday, adding: “Saudi Arabia is an important partner in the field of security.”
And the US Secretary of State continued: “We will continue our joint work to defend the Kingdom from external threats, although at the same time we intensify diplomacy to end the conflict in Yemen and we raised human rights issues within the framework of our relations.”
Spoke yesterday with @Sarah_far. Saudi Arabia is an important security partner. We will continue our work together to defend the Kingdom from external threats, while revitalizing diplomacy to end the Yemen conflict and elevating human rights issues within our relationship.
