Value of the construction industry in Querétaro registers decline

Queretaro, Qro. the value of the Construction Industrygenerated in the entity, from January to August 2022, registers a decline of 18.1% in relation to the same period of 2021, according to the National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC), of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (inegi).

However, the fall is more pronounced compared to the same period in 2019, experiencing a decrease of 34.9% compared to the pre-pandemic period.

The regression is even greater when compared to January-August 2018, one of the best years for the industry, and against which it reports a drop of 42.7 percent.

Private work continues to predominate in the production value generated in the entity; In the first eight months of 2022, this sector contributed 86.7% of the total value, against 13.3% contributed by the public sector.

Although the private sector has a greater contribution to the industry, in the last four years the public sector has had the most significant falls.

In the January-August period of the current year, the value of the public sector decreased 45.7% at an annual rate, a variation that is greater than the 38% decline experienced in relation to the same period in 2019.

Similarly, the value of private works, accumulated from January to August 2022, accounts for an annual drop of 11.2%, less than the decrease of 34.5% for the same period in 2019.

Only in August 2022, the construction industry in general fell 14.9% at the annual rate in the state, spinning three months with a fall; the public sector fell 22.6%, with 11 consecutive months with negative variation; and the private, in August of this year fell 12.8%, with three consecutive months in decline.

The negative balance registered by the industry in the state in general –in the annual variation of the accumulated value in the first eight months of 2022 (of -18.1%)– even contrasts with the 3.9% growth experienced by the national industry in the same period.

According to the construction value generated in the entity, from January to August 2022, the private sector contributed 57.5%, higher than the 42.5% contribution achieved by the public sector.

However, in the country the industry accumulates 13 consecutive months of positive annual variations, one digit, from April 2021 to August 2022, in the last reference month the increase was just 0.1 percent.

Construction industry value falls in August 2022

In August of this year, the value of the construction industry, generated by entity, had an annual drop in 14 states: Aguascalientes with -54.7%, Colima with -52.5%, State of Mexico with -41.2%, Michoacán with -40.6 %, Zacatecas with -34.1%, Baja California Sur with -31.3%, Coahuila with -30.6%, Veracruz with -27.1%, Guerrero with -26.1%, Guanajuato with -22.4%, Nuevo León with -19.5%, Querétaro with – 14.9%, Baja California with -7.9% and Durango with -5.5 percent.

And it registered a positive variation in the remaining 18 entities: in Hidalgo (285.9%), Chiapas (120.1%), Quintana Roo (70.4%), Nayarit (36%), Jalisco (34.3%), Morelos (32%), Tamaulipas (30.7%), Mexico City (25.8%), San Luis Potosí (24.6%), Puebla (24.6%), Tabasco (24.6%), Sonora (21.7%), Campeche (20.2%), Oaxaca (17.8%) ), Sinaloa (16.2%), Chihuahua (12.7%), Tlaxcala (9.6%) and Yucatán (1.9 percent).
